Where can you legally use cannabis in Minnesota?
Adults 21+ may use cannabis in a private residence or yard, on private property not generally open to the public (unless the owner forbids it), and at a venue or event licensed for on-site consumption. Those are the only places the statute lists.

Can you smoke or vape cannabis in public?
Smoking or vaping cannabis is banned anywhere Minnesota's Clean Indoor Air Act bans smoking. Cities and counties may also make using cannabis in a public place a petty misdemeanor.

Where is cannabis use prohibited?
Using cannabis in a motor vehicle is prohibited, as is using or possessing it at public or charter schools (including school vehicles) and in state prisons, and smoking or vaping it where a minor would inhale the smoke or vapor. Medical cannabis patients and their registered caregivers are exempt from the vehicle and school bans when they possess medical cannabis products or use them other than by smoking or vaping.

Can you smoke cannabis in an apartment building?
Smoking or vaping cannabis, hemp-derived THC products or artificially derived cannabinoids is prohibited inside multifamily housing buildings, including their balconies and patios, with a $250 civil fine. Medical cannabis flower and medical cannabinoid products are exempt.
Except for the use of medical cannabis flower or medical cannabinoid products, the vaporizing or smoking of cannabis flower, cannabis products, artificially derived cannabinoids, or hemp-derived consumer products is prohibited in a multifamily housing building, including balconies and patios appurtenant thereto. A violation of this paragraph is punishable through a civil administrative fine in an amount of $250.

Does Minnesota's law apply on federal land?
Minnesota's legalization does not change federal law, which makes it unlawful for any person to knowingly possess a controlled substance without a valid prescription or order. That federal rule has no exception for states that legalize, so it applies throughout Minnesota, including on federal land and in federal buildings.
